I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend! I’m back to work today after a few much-needed days off. It was great to sit back and eat Thanksgiving food…and then leftovers for the next few days.
My Thanksgiving began bright and early, before the sun was up in fact. I signed up to volunteer at my running club’s annual Turkey Trot 5 mile race. It was cold and even snowed a little bit, so I didn’t mind that I wasn’t running, and we got great volunteer jackets in exchange for showing up early!
After spending the morning in Prospect Park volunteering at the Turkey Trot, I went home for a quick nap before going to Thanksgiving dinner. My contribution was a chocolate fudge wreath, with walnuts, raisins, and edible turkeys on top. (It is the easiest recipe ever!)
On Friday, I went to the east end of Long Island to spend some time with family and get out of the city. It was chilly but I ran outside on both Friday and Saturday because I couldn’t pass up the chance to run on my favorite beach-side running routes. (But I run on pavement, not the sand.)
Friday night took me on a windy run on Gerard Point (which I’ve raved about before) and finished up right at sunset.
Saturday took me to the ocean and back. You can almost imagine this photo is of the beach in the summer, and not the end of November at a brisk 36 degrees, if you ignore the people in heavy coats in the distance!
My Saturday run also took me past one of my favorite spots as a young child – the duck pond! Going to feed the ducks was a very exciting event back in the day.
On Saturday night, we drove out to Montauk to see the historic lighthouse being lit for the holiday season. There were Christmas carols, hot chocolate, candy canes, and even Santa Claus!
On Sunday, I planned on going to a yoga class in the morning, but I woke up 10 minutes before the yoga class started, for a total of almost 11 hours of sleep. Maybe it had something to do with the 10 miles I ran in two days on Friday and Saturday? (My weekly mileage total was just under 20 miles, after having run a total of 8 miles last week and the week before that.) Instead, I stayed in pajamas til around 1pm and we took an afternoon walk through the town center before I caught my train back to the city.

Happy December!
What are you most excited for this month?
